Interview Master THesis Human Resources
Tell us about your application process?
After seeing the master thesis advertised on the AVL homepage I applied for it. A telephone call followed, in which I got invited to an interview. Due to the local distance and corona measures at this time, the interview had to take place online. The team leader of the HR department, the recruiter and me discussed the topic to be covered. A few weeks later the commitment of the company arrived to me and I was allowed to chose my preferred start date.
What are the advantages of writing the thesis within the company?
For me, a big advantage is the fact that you can practically apply and use the theoretical knowledge you acquire in the university context. You can thus gain initial experience in the working world and have a very good transition process from university to everyday working life. It also gave me the opportunity to dig deep into the aspects, that interested me the most during my studies and also represent a possible career field after graduation.
Due to the practical relevance, I was able to acquire many new skills and thus also gain new knowledge for my entry into professional life. In addition, completing the master’s thesis in a company gives you the opportunity to contribute valuable work for the company over a longer period of time, which gives you the feeling that you are doing your part, of a bigger picture.

Which expectations for a thesis with the company did you have and were they met?
I hoped that the topic to be worked on would represent my project, which I could work on independently. This expectation was fulfilled because I was considered an expert from the beginning and allowed to design, build and evaluate my work according to my ideas. Nevertheless, I could rely on getting support when it was needed.
What knowledge could you aquire?
Within writing the final thesis I was able to acquire deeper knowledge in my subject and in the field of project management. In addition, I was able to gain my first insights into a larger company and get to know the belonging processes and structures. I also worked closely with leaders, which was aswell a new and exciting experience.
Which tips would you give to future bachelor/master students?
I can only recommend writing a thesis at AVL SET GmbH, because both the team and the company in general are very friendly and open and welcome you warmly.
With regard to the master’s thesis, it is helpful if you like to work independently and have a basic level of self-organization and motivation. A solid and realistic schedule is enormously important, aswell as a good concept to keep the balance between theory and empiricism.
What happens after your master thesis?
After successfully completing my master thesis, I was given the opportunity here at AVL SET to deepen my subject area once again and to implement my work. So for the time being I will remain with the company.
