Testing Power Electronics
Testing Power electronics
Supporting our customers with the latest test technology is our contribution to make electric powertrains cost-efficient and reliable.
AVL SET is committed to testing of power electronics throughout the entire life cycle of power electronic components. Starting with the development of these components, through production to repair, test methods, test equipment and test systems accompany the respective test process. In doing so, AVL SET follows new methodological paths to make test procedures as efficient and meaningful as possible.
Our extensive expertise ranges from test applications in the automotive industry to solutions for racing, e-bike, trucks and busses.
testing Methodology
A product is only as good as the testing process. This is a maxim, but the logic hidden behind it only becomes apparent on closer inspection. Everything that has been specified for a future product must also be validated. This means that the defined characteristics must be proven in the development process – otherwise the specification of characteristics for a product becomes pointless.
Challenges
The central problem when testing with a real e-motor, however, is that an inverter/e-motor integration must take place at a time when actually only the power electronics component is to be tested – independent of the e-motor. Thus, with a mechanical setup, two levels of complexity clash: the electrical level of the inverter with the mechanical level of the e-motor.
Test Cases
Using the example of a drive inverter, the following typical test requirements can be realized very efficiently with an e-motor emulator: Take a look at our test cases.
Standards
Which standards exist and how can they be implemented with our solution? In order to perform tests according to the standards, AVL SET’s test systems are designed holistically.
